Are you having a tough time staying motivated with your current fitness routine. For many people the same routines day in and day out for long periods of time can start to feel stale and difficult to maintain. While there is a benefit to keeping a consistent fitness routine changing it up after long stretches can help keep you motivated and consistent with your routine.
I know that personally for me I keep a similar structure and muscle group split, but I need to change up my routine frequently or else I struggle to stay consistent with it. Keeping my workouts structured the same overall week to week and implementing some of the changes we are going to talk about below can help you keep that routine more motivating overall.

Change your Routine
Changing up your routine is probably one of the most obvious ways to change up your fitness routine and help keep yourself motivated. There’s many different ways that you can change up your fitness routine including incorporating different exercises, changing up your exercise split, changing up the type of exercise you are doing and more. I find that changing exercises up is a common go to for me. I usually stick to the same overall structure, but I will use a variety of exercises to work each of the muscle groups in order to change it up a little bit. If you find yourself struggling try changing up your routine to give yourself a change and shake things up.
Change your Environment
Changing your environment seems like a very simple thing to do but it can be super effective when it comes to changing up a stale fitness routine. If you typically train in a gym try a different area of the gym or try incorporating home workouts once or twice a week. If you usually work out at home try going into a gym or try taking your workouts outside in the nice weather (I get this isn’t always an option at certain times of year). Changing up where you are doing your workouts (even if you aren’t changing the workout itself) can give the workout a new feel and can help to keep you motivated and moving forward.

Change your Equipment
Do you typically use machines when you go into the gym? Try changing it up and grab some free weights instead. Do you use dumbbells when training at home? Grab yourself a set of bands to change it up. Changing up the equipment that you using, even if you are still doing the same exercises can change the entire feel of the workout. Try swapping different equipment in to keep yourself motivated and give your workouts a new feel.
Change your Music
Yes you read that right…create a new workout playlist. It sounds simple (and it really is), but choosing music that motivates you and makes you want to get up and move can be a game changer when it comes to changing up your workout routine. Maybe you have an old playlist you go back to or you are feeling a certain vibe on a certain day and you choose based on that. No matter what your choices are choose something that makes you want to get up and dance (and you can even dance between sets).

Grab a Friend
Accountability when you are struggling can be key. Grab a friend and try a new fitness class together or try following their workout routine to change it up. Having someone alongside you to keep you on track for your goals can be one of the simplest and most motivating things you can do. When you are choosing an accountability partner just make sure that it’s someone who will actually keep you accountable to those workout sessions you are setting (whether with them or not). Friends who cheer you on are great, but a good accountability partner will hold you to a high level and make sure that you get those workouts in when you are committing to get them in.
