As we roll into the last month of the year and the holidays are just around the corner a lot of people will start thinking about their New Year’s Resolutions. But have you ever thought about the fact that you don’t have to wait until January 1st to start making changes in your life. No matter what your resolutions are this year whether they are health and fitness related or not I want you to know that you don’t have to wait until the New Year to start making changes, in fact, let’s jump into 5 reasons why you should start on those resolutions today.
Helps Avoid the All-or-Nothing Mentality
For some reason when we set goals and resolutions around New Year’s we believe that it’s all or nothing. If you’ve followed me for any length of time you know that this isn’t how I believe that sustainable change is made. Start acting on your goals before the New Year and you can help yourself avoid this all-or-nothing mentality that often comes with setting goals at the beginning of the year.

Change Takes Time
And the all-or-nothing mentality leads me to my next point. Change takes time. Yes you read that right…time, and likely more time than you think. Ask yourself if you really just want to lose the weight quickly (I’m just using weight loss as an example here because it’s one of the most common resolutions) or if you genuinely want to create changes in your life that will serve you for the rest of your life? Quick fixes may happen quickly, but they aren’t sustainable and they are habit changes that will help you in the long run. True, sustainable change takes time…and if you’ve been around for any length of time, you know that I preach that all day, everyday.
Helps Take the Pressure Off
So if you start now…do you feel the same amount of pressure to achieve your New Year’s resolution. I feel like everyone puts so much pressure on January 1, and why? Because it’s a new year? Take the pressure off and start when your ready, maybe it’s now…but maybe it’s March 2022 and that’s cool too. Which leads me into point 4…

Who Says January 1st if the Right Time
Maybe it is…but maybe January is a busy month for you. Maybe you’re getting married January or moving, or starting school or…you get the picture. Big life changes can happen at any time and maybe you find them happening at the beginning of the new year. When you have big changes going on it can be difficult to keep on top of your resolutions so if you find yourself in this situation give yourself grace and wait a month to start working towards your goals…just because a new year is starting doesn’t mean it’s the right time for you.
Starting Now Keeps You Focused on Your Goals

When you start without the added pressure that comes with sticking with New Years resolutions you can stay focused on you and your goals. When you are working towards New Years resolutions with your friends or family there can be added pressure and you may be tempted to adjust your goals outside of what’s realistic for you. Beginning before the new year allows you to establish goals that will fit your lifestyle while still allowing you to work towards them without the added pressure to adjust. Remember that goals are yours and yours alone. You goals should be set for you and not to compete with those around you.
